Overview
Arrowtown Drinks had secured a significant opportunity with The Co-operative - a freestanding display unit across 90 stores. The brand identity was already established by Brandon Consultants, giving a brilliant foundation to work with. The challenge was bringing it to life in three dimensions and making it impossible to walk past.

Role
The project involved designing a freestanding display unit that could hold four flavours across three viewable sides, communicate the product clearly to someone who'd never heard of Arrowtown before, and stand out in a busy retail environment competing with some of the biggest drinks brands in the country. This included working closely with the manufacturer to ensure the flat design translated correctly to the 3D structure.

Challenge
The display needed to do several jobs at once - introduce an unfamiliar brand, communicate what the product was instantly, highlight key credentials, showcase all four flavours without feeling cluttered, and incorporate a promotional mechanic. It also needed to work from multiple angles, with relevant content on each side without feeling repetitive. And it needed to feel like Arrowtown: bold, feel-good, and full of energy.

Solution
The design centred on a clear hierarchy of messaging and a structure that worked from every angle. The backboard was die-cut to follow the whale tail shape from Arrowtown's brand identity - giving the unit a distinctive silhouette that made it immediately recognisable and genuinely different from anything else on the floor. The founders reported that the rate of sale tripled in the first two weeks of going in store.

From the outset Jon understood our needs and ambitions. His eye for detail and expertise really helped elevate the final design and bring my vision from a vague brief to life. The early feedback to the FSDUs has been amazing and they're now popping up in shops across the country!
